In December 2001, the international Center for Pesticide Safety (ICPS) and IAAMRH Algned a five year agreement on the development of an international collaborating network for the health promotion of rural people.
The ICPS is a WHO. Collaborating Center involved in the promotion of occupational health with particular emphasis on pesticides
ICPS activity focuses on four major areas
- pesticide toxicity documentation and information
- pesticide epidemiology, texicology and clinical reasearch
- training and education for occupational health in agricultur
- development of standard tests for pesticide residues.
Move recently activities have broadened into public health including general rural health issues.
Consequently the Center wants to
- develop collaborations with other rural health professionals
- exchange information on rural policy making
- develop initiatives in sustainable rural health
The collaboration will focus on the following:
- Support for one anothers acitvities
- Reciprocal Website links
- IAAMRH representative on editorial staff of Pesticide
Safety News ICPS representative on the Editorial Board of The Annals of Agriculture and Environmental Medicine
- An ICPS representative will be a member of the Board of IAAMRH
- An IAAMRH representative will be invited to the ICPS Program Steeving Committee
- ICPS * IAAMRH will plan and organise traingng activities in rural health. A key action will be establishment of a Masters Program in Rural Health.
Dr. Claudio Colosio, Head of the Research and Documentation Unit of the International Center for Pesticide Safety and Dr. Ashok Patil will meet in February to initiate these activities
